Children, Adolescents, Families and Adults

Meghan Dean is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has 19 years of experience working with children, adolescents, and families. She works out of the St. Charles office. Meghan earned her undergraduate degree in Psychology at Washington University in St. Louis and earned her Masters in Social Work at University of Illinois at Chicago, Jane Addams College of Social Work.

Meghan most recently worked as a child, adolescent and family therapist at Lurie Children’s Town and Country Pediatrics in Glenview, IL for seven years. She provided individual and family counseling to children aged 2-18 who were patients of the practice.  Meghan also worked closely with the parents of these patients to offer parenting consultation and coaching.

My expertise is with anxiety, emotional and behavioral concerns, parent coaching and consultation,  mood disorders, trauma, self-esteem, ADD/ADHD, stress management, attachment and family issues. I have also provided treatment around life and transitional difficulties such as grief/loss, separation/divorce difficulties for you and your child, professional difficulties/stressors, or identity development. I utilize multiple approaches to best help and address the presenting problem, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Play Therapy, Behavior Modification, Trauma-Focused Treatment and Art Therapy. I have had extensive experience working with children and adolescents with excessive worries, anxieties and irritability. I especially enjoy working with parents around parenting their young children and will work closely with you regarding issues related to your children’s potty training, sleep training, emotional and behavioral difficulties. I can provide crisis intervention as needed in order to assess suicidality, concerns of sexual abuse/acting out, or self-harm and provide follow up treatment or appropriate referral when necessary. I collaborate frequently with outside providers (school social workers, psychiatrists, other providers) in order to best meet the needs of the children, their families and adults. I enjoy teaching families about relaxation techniques, such as meditation, and have researched the many options available to find which one might be the best fit for you.

Previously I worked for eight years at La Rabida Children’s Hospital doing individual and family therapy with children who had experienced trauma, such as abuse or neglect. I worked with children diagnosed with anxiety, mood, and behavioral disorders.

I believe therapy is a process that helps people gain awareness of their strengths, behavior and thinking patterns in order to provide the opportunity to make significant and meaningful changes in their lives. I am highly dedicated to the children and adults with whom I work and am committed to finding the best strategy to help them find peace and fulfillment in their lives.  I approach my work with children and adults with genuine caring, warmth, enthusiasm and, at times, a sense of humor. I am focused on helping you learn the skills to ultimately help yourself.
